Tyler Cassidy was a 15-year-old kid who was shot and murdered by police officers from the Victoria Police Department. The shooting took place on December 11, 2008, in All Nations Park in Northcote, Victoria, and Tyler Jordan Cassidy died as a result of the police shooting. He was a little older than 15 years old. Cassidy had armed himself with two big knives that he had taken from a neighbouring shopping centre before the shooting, and he had intimidated members of the public, pleading with them to contact the police before opening fire. Tyler refused to drop the blades when police officers requested that he do so at the park. When Officer Dods was unable to restrain Cassidy with OC spray after two unsuccessful attempts, Officer Dods fired a warning shot into the ground followed by two bullets into Cassidy’s legs. In response to Cassidy’s refusal to drop his guns despite repeated orders to do so, three police officers fired a further seven bullets, five of which hit Cassidy who was less than four metres away from Officer Dods. A fourth officer did not discharge his weapon. Cassidy succumbed to his injuries on the scene within minutes.
